Preamble
There is a change of format for
this edition. On pre-reading the whole
year’s editions it became clear that items could be grouped under three main
headings with a fourth (car parking) as a category of its own.
UNION MATTERS
(Issue 1) Mike Bennett wrote about
the legal and other consequences of Industrial Action.
(3) Terry Baker gave a warning
to management not to use the law to antagonise staff. He was disappointed that so many NATFHE
members in senior positions seem determined not to support their union.
(5) Terry
Baker appealed for staff to support the Sustentation Fund.
(7) Terry
Murphy gave an update on NATFHE strike actions.
(10) Terry Murphy gave details of a pre-retirement seminar.
(15) Terry Murphy reported on the National Executive’s acceptance of pay
and conditions of service. Dennis Rutley questioned the figures put
forward as the pay rise. He argued that
it was probably 3% over each of the next two years, not the higher figures
being quoted.
(24) Terry Murphy gave details of the location of the ballot boxes to
be used for the ‘Political Fund’ votes.
(26) D. Jenkinson complained that he had been deducted pay for ‘unpaid
leave’. Someone in management must have
forwarded his name – despite them ultimately gaining benefit from the pay
awards.
(28) The date for the NATFHE AGM
to be followed by a discussion on conditions of service was given by Terry Murphy.
CAR PARKING
(1) Chris
Evans reminded staff to obtain their car parking stickers.
(19) There would be restricted
parking places whilst repair work was done to the roof of the Art and Design
building reported Clive Welsteed.
(23) Dennis
Rutley wrote of the continuing shortage of not enough car parking
spaces. If someone did find a space or
several, they would probably think that they had mistakenly come in during the
vacation.
